Participants will enjoy a day at Wild Wings that will include a hunter safety review, sporting clays, ammunition, a mentor with a hunting dog, and lunch.

“We are very excited to offer this unique hunting opportunity,” Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul Peditto said. “We are actively building a mentored hunting program and having partners such as Wild Wings is helping us to provide quality hunting experiences for those who are interested in learning or just want to get back out into the field.”

A lapsed hunter is someone who has had a Maryland hunting license in the past, but not in three of the last five years.

Interested hunters must apply to participate and space is limited to 14 hunters each day to help ensure a quality hunting experience. There is no cost to apply or participate in this mentored hunt, though participants must possess a valid Maryland hunting license. Participants will be selected via a random lottery drawing. The deadline to apply is Oct. 18.

Interested hunters can apply to participate by completing an online application form. Additional information can be found on the department’s Mentored Hunt Program web page.
