April 27th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Dr. David A. Cox, Superintendent of Schools in Allegany County was elected to a three-year term on the executive committee of AASA, The School Superintendents Association.

Founded in 1865 and headquartered in Alexandria, VA, AASA serves as the premier organization for our nation’s school superintendents serving thousands of education leaders throughout the United States. The 21-member committee, elected by AASA’s governing board, represents each region of the country. The committee meets quarterly and conducts the ongoing business of the organization.

“I am a first-generation college graduate who benefited from the care and support of dedicated public school educators,” said Cox. “I am honored to serve on AASA’s executive committee. We must be advocates for all of America’s public school children. As leaders, we must use our collective voice to speak up for all children. This position will help me do just that.” Dr. Cox has been a member of AASA since 1997 and has belonged to the Public Schools Superintendent’s Association of Maryland since 2009. He was named the Maryland Superintendent of the Year in 2016.

In July, Dr. Cox and four other superintendents from across the country will be sworn in as AASA executive committee members during a ceremony in Washington, D.C. For more information on AASA, visit www.aasa.org.
