October 19th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Beginning last year, ACPS Personal Financial Literacy teachers in collaboration with First People's Community FCU began to work together in an effort to enhance the curriculum, making financial literacy relevant and engaging. Representatives from First People's have visited high school PFL classrooms over the course of a semester to work directly with students to support the goals of the course.

"First People's is very pleased to partner with the Allegany County Public School System in providing financial education in the high schools," stated First People's President/CEO, Mr. Stacey Bingaman. "We feel it is very important to give young people a solid foundation of knowledge that can be used throughout the rest of their lives so that they can make good financial choices."

According to CTE Supervisor, Candy Canan, "This collaborative effort is one we are glad to see come forth, as we have a recognized need to make certain our students graduate with an understanding of how to manage their own finances."

Mr. Bingaman noted, "This partnership also gives First People's an opportunity to give back to our local communities. It benefits families and businesses when people understand their financial options and make good financial choices throughout their lives."
