A former sheriff has filed to run for Register of Wills in Allegany County; while a retired state trooper is being lobbied to run for a house of delegates seat. Former Allegany County Sheriff David Goad filed last week. A democrat, Goad could potentially square off next November against current Register Mary Beth Pirolozzi. Pirolozzi, a republican, was appointed by the Judges of Orphans Court to fill the seat that became vacant when Rebecca Drew resigned amidst a grand jury indictment. Meanwhile, retired Maryland State Trooper James Pyles, who currently serves as director of safety and security for the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, tells WCBC News that a number of people from both parties have urged him to run for the House of Delegates 1B seat. At this point, for several reasons, he says he is leaning against jumping into politics. If he does decide too, Pyles, a republican, would be challenging incumbent Jason Buckel in June’s primary election. Democrat Penny Walker, with the Maryland Legal Aid Bureau in Cumberland, confirmed to WCBC News earlier in September that she plans to run for the 1B seat.
