Frostburg State University to Rededicate John Leake Hall of Fame Room

July 15th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Frostburg State University will rededicate a space in the Harold J. Cordts PE Center in honor of John Leake, a coal miner who became a member of the House of Delegates and played a crucial role in the establishment of State Normal School No. 2 at Frostburg. The event to rededicate the John Leake Hall of Fame Room will be Monday, July 22, at noon. The public, especially Leake’s descendants, is invited to attend.

In 1898, it was Leake who introduced to the House a bill to establish State Normal School No. 2 at Frostburg. This bill failed, so Leake then added an amendment to the Appropriations Bill during that same session, which finally assured that the school would be built. In 1988, 100 years later, FSU initially dedicated the room in his honor.
