FSU Rescinds Planned Layoffs

November 25th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Frostburg State University announced Tuesday that the school would be rescinding 12 planned layoffs, following successful union negotiations.

The planned layoffs were the result of FSU’s budget deficit, caused by a shortage in enrollment and by state appropriation cuts. Previous negotiations had ended with Local 239 American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees representatives unsatisfied and 12 layoffs on the board.

Local 239 AFSCME previously had organized a virtual rally to protest the layoffs and to request that FSU return to negotiations.
