Frostburg senior defensive back Vincent Persichetti has been named to the 2019 Academic All-America® Division II football team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Persichetti, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., becomes Frostburg's first-ever Academic All-American football player. He was one of 25 student-athletes named to the second team and one of 50 players named to both the first and second teams nationally. Persichetti carries a 3.57 GPA and majors in both sociology and law & society.
He is a three-time NJAC All-Academic honoree, is a 2019 William V. Campbell Trophy of the National Football Foundation (NFF) nominee for academics and is a six-time Dean's List student.
Persichetti closed his athletic career at FSU this past fall following four standout seasons. He was a Second Team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) honoree following his junior season and was selected to the All-Mountain East Conference (MEC) second team in November.
He finished the fall campaign with 55 total tackles, three interceptions, 11 pass break-ups, with a forced and recovered fumble. In a senior day win over Kentucky Wesleyan, Persichetti sealed the victory with a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown.
In his four years, Persichetti helped the Bobcats to 39 wins, three-consecutive postseason appearances with a national ranking of No. 6 during his junior season.
Persichetti is one of six players from the Mountain East Conference to earn Academic All-American honors and he is the second honoree this fall since Frostburg joined the NCAA Division II ranks.
Last week, Frostburg senior Gwen Schemm was named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Women's Soccer team, becoming the first honoree in school history at the DII level.
Persichetti is just third male student-athlete in Frostburg history to garner Academic All-American honors. Scott Raba and Zach Keeler of the Bobcat baseball team are the two previous male student-athletes to be honored with the nation's top academic honor.
FSU finished the fall season at 8-3 overall in its first season at DII.
