Garrett College Announces Presidential Finalists

The Garrett College Board of Trustees today announced the names of three finalists that have been selected for the presidency of Garrett College. “We were able to recruit a rich pool of candidates from throughout the state, region and nation. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the many accomplishments at Garrett College,” stated Duane Yoder, Chair of the Presidential Search Committee and member of the Garrett College Board of Trustees. “These efforts have been instrumental in attracting such high quality candidates.” The finalists for the president’s position are (in alphabetical order):


Lorrie Clemo, Ph.D., is the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the State University of New York (SUNY) Oswego. Previously, she was the Chief of State and Deputy to the President at SUNY Oswego. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Le Moyne College, N.Y., a Master of Arts in Political Science from Binghamton University, N.Y., and a Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science and Policy Analysis from Binghamton University, N.Y.


Melissa Denardo, Ed.D, is the former Provost/Vice President of Learning and Student Success at the Community College of Beaver County, Pa. Previously, she served as the Assistant Campus Dean at Kent State University – Salem Campus in Ohio. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Education and a Master of Education in Business from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Pa., and a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration and Policy Studies – Higher Education Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, Pa.


Richard Midcap, Ed.D, is the Chief Student Affairs Officer at Chesapeake College located in Maryland. Previously, he was the Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs at Chesapeake College. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and History from Salisbury University, Md., a Master of Arts in History from Washington College, Md., and a Doctor of Education in Innovation and Leadership from Wilmington University, Del.


Campus interviews for the three presidential finalists are scheduled for the week of October 16 – 21, 2016. Each finalist will participate in forums and discussions with Garrett College Board of Trustees members, Foundation board members, faculty, staff, and members of local government and school organizations. In addition, open forums have been scheduled for members of the community to meet each of the candidates, and are encouraged to attend, according to the schedule below:


Sunday, October 16, 2016, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Richard Midcap, Ed.D. 


Meeting will be held in Room #205 of the Continuing Education building at the McHenry campus.


Tuesday, October 18, 2016, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Lorrie Clemo, Ph.D.

Thursday, October 20, 2016, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Melissa Denardo, Ed.D.
