CSX Transportation may their own bridge troubles to worry about. While the City of Cumberland negotiates with CSX for an answer to the closed Washington Street Bridge, CSX is also talking with the State Highway Administration. Planned re-decking of Interstate 68 would entail a detour of truck traffic passing under the rail bridge at Greene Street. Mayor Ray Morriss says the bridge has to go up – there are too many issues to dig down…

  

“We have issues now with flooding underneath that Greene Street bridge. And it’s the capacity of the system to be able to handle that. That would involve the Army Corps of Engineers – it goes all the way back to the flood control system that was put in back in the 40s.”
