The head of Maryland's teachers union says Governor Larry Hogan's demand that all school districts reopen buildings by March 1 for some form of in-person learning doesn't help schools do that any sooner. Saying that there is nobody who wants to go back to school more than educators and to work with our students, Cheryl Bost told WBAL Radio that playing politics and making vailed threats is counterproductive. On Monday, teachers became eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine under Phase 1B of the governor's plan. However, Bost said, many teachers don't know they are now eligible to get the vaccine and that teachers should get the second dose of the vaccine before reopenings are on the table. She also accused the governor and state Superintendent Karen Salmon of failing to engage with educators in recent months.
