James Elliot Appointed State’s Attorney for Allegany County

James Elliot, the former District Public Defender for Allegany and Garrett Counties, has been appointed State's Attorney by the Circuit Court of Allegany County. Elliot fills the vacancy created with Michael Twigg's appointment last month as a Circuit Court judge. Prior to being appointed District Public Defender in 2017, where he supervised a staff of eleven attorneys and nine support personnel, Elliot served as an assistant Public Defender in Allegany County for six years. He is a graduate of Frostburg State University and the University of Baltimore School of Law. A native of Allegany County Elliot is a graduate of Bishop Walsh High School. He is married and has four children. The State's Attorney is an elected position and Elliot will serve in the position until the general election of 2022.
