James Pyles, retired Maryland State Police major and director of safety and security for the Maryland Department of Health, had a clear message last week when he addressed the Cumberland Rotary Club: the only real solution to the heroin and opioid epidemic is through education. He said it is his belief that about seventy-five percent of people walking around today addicted to heroin started with prescription opioids- and that is one reason he testified before the Maryland General Assembly earlier this year for House Bill 1432 to limit opioid prescriptions to three to seven days…
