Dr. Elmaslias “Elm” Menchavez died on Saturday, February 17, shortly after celebrating his 72nd birthday. He was beloved and respected by his family, friends, and colleagues for a life defined by compassion, integrity, and a deep commitment to provide care and healing to the many children in Western Maryland.
He started a medical practice which has grown to almost five thousand current patients. He has served as past president of the Allegany County Medical Society, member of Medical Chirurgical and past chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Western Maryland Health System.
Family will receive friends at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, on both Thursday, February 22, and Friday, February 23, from 4-7 p.m. A Christian Wake will follow on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Shrine of SS. Peter and Paul, Cumberland, MD, on Saturday, February 24 at 11 a.m.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Bisaya Medical Organization (http://www.bisayamedical.org/donate.html), and the Maryland American Academy of Pediatrics Foundation (http://www.mdaap.org/), servicing children’s health needs in the state of Maryland.
