Mailbox explosion at McHenry residence

Explosion of a residential mailbox at a residence on Beckman Peninsula Road remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office and the Garrett County Sheriff's Office. The Cumberland Times News reports the incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at the residence of Robert and Carol Smith, 907 Beckman Peninsula Road.

 

Damage to the metal mailbox was discovered by a neighbor and was estimated at $75.

The Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded.

 

Anyone with information about the unknown explosive device that was used to damage the mailbox is asked to contact the state fire marshal at 301-766-3888.
