On Monday, beginning at approximately 12:20 p.m., the Frostburg City Police Department received multiple calls from the public reporting that a male subject was assaulting random people with rocks or bricks, damaging property, and engaging in other criminal activity in the areas of First Street and Centennial Street, Frostburg, Allegany County, Maryland.

Callers provided a description of the suspect, and police searched the area. Police located the suspect matching the description, identified as Jason Marquee Lavergne, 23, of Severn and Frostburg, in the area of First Street. Lavergne was holding a rock in one hand and a brick in the other hand and threatened the officer with them. The officer attempted to stop Lavergne, and he was initially compliant, but then he fled on foot from the officer and the backup officer. Police searched the area before locating Lavergne again on Shaw Street. Upon seeing the marked police car, emergency lights, and siren, Lavergne fled on foot. Lavergne leapt down an overhang into a wooded brush area, and officers pursued him on foot. Police caught up to him after a short distance as he ran the rest of the way into the wooded area. Officers were able to subdue and arrest Lavergne without further incident.

Police transported Lavergne to the FPD holding cell area for processing and charges. Police identified ten different victims in the area of First Street, Centennial Street, and Shaw Street. Some victims had been driving when Lavergne walked in front of them, stopped them, and threw bricks or rocks at their vehicles, causing damage. Other victims were in their yards or driveways when Lavergne threw rocks or bricks at them, striking one victim in the leg. One brick or rock was thrown through the side of a camper and one into a house, breaking the door window and damaging a wall. Lavergne spit on one victim. The victims were random, with no connection to Lavergne. Later, when Lavergne was in the Frostburg City Police holding cell, he spit on two Frostburg City Police officers.
