Lawmakers in Annapolis have approved a sweeping police reform bill with veto-proof majorities in both chambers
The agreement, the result of a compromise between the House and Senate, repeals the Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights, sets use of force policy and allows many police disciplinary records to be subject to public review.
"The only way we will make our communities safer is by restoring trust, transparency, and accountability between our law enforcement, and the community members they serve," Senate President Bill Ferguson said in a statement.
While nearly all Republicans voted against the bill, House Minority Leader Nik Kipke voted for it, calling it a good compromise.
A spokesman for Republican Gov. Larry Hogan said the governor will review the measure.
