Maryland has the best high schools in the nation, according to the most recent national rankings by U.S. News & World Report. WBAL reports this is the third year in a row Maryland has earned this distinction that reflects which schools are most successfully preparing students for college based on students participating in and achieving passing scores on Advanced Placement tests. The rankings also include appropriate statewide tests and graduation rates in its calculations.
Florida placed second in the rankings with California, Connecticut and Massachusetts rounding out the top five states, according to the rankings.
Winston Churchill High School in Montgomery County was the top-ranked Maryland school at No. 75 nationally. Marriotts Ridge was the top-ranked Baltimore-area school at No. 226 nationally and sixth in the state, followed by River Hill (258th nationally, 7th in Maryland), George W. Carver Center for Arts & Technology (339, 8) and Eastern Tech (354, 10).
