McCagh Updates Plans for Recreation Center for Developmentally Disabled

February 22nd, 2017 by WCBC Radio

A little more than a year since the announcement, Dan and Jody Malamis’ dream of establishing Luke's Place – a recreation center for the developmentally disabled- is inching closer to reality. Dan Malamis, a Cumberland resident and businessman who owns nine Jersey Mike's Subs stores and whose son Luke is developmentally disabled- provided details of his plans last year and teamed with Dr. Sean McCagh and the Hooley Plunge to begin a fund raising effort.  Dr. McCagh, who has since stepped down from chairing the annual event but remains in an active role, provided an update on Luke’s Place to the Cumberland Rotary Club Tuesday. The big news is that property and the first building has been obtained thanks to the Lavale Knights of Columbus. The land and building is located behind Walmart adjacent to the Country Club Mall. Dr. McCagh says the building will be used to provide a permanent home for the Special Olympics and for Boy Scout Troop 89 and other local programs. The long term goal is to see a recreation center located at the site…
