The Allegany Arts Council will open its premier painting exhibition of the year, the ninth annual Mountain Maryland Plein Air Exhibition, on June 23 at 6 p.m. at the Saville Gallery, 9 N. Centre St.

The event features freshly painted work by 30 open air painters who have been working in Allegany and Garrett counties since June 19.

The exhibition opens with a collectors’ reception from 6 to 8 p.m. and closes with a public reception June 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. The collectors’ reception, which is a ticketed event, includes an awards ceremony where artists will win prizes in categories such as best architectural painting, best landscape and best nocturnal painting.

“The collectors’ reception for the plein air exhibition is the place to be on Friday night,” said Tama Scarpelli, president of the arts council. “You can feel the excitement in the air as we pull the curtains to reveal the artists’ paintings for the first time.”

The exhibition will be open June 24 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The closing reception on Saturday night is free and open to the public.
