New Airport Runway Will Cost $32 Million

According to officials with the Potomac Highlands Airport Authority,  the proposed new runway at the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport will cost more than $32  million.  Airport manager Ryan Shaffer and Dr. Gregg Wolff, chair of the authority board, presented an update on the project to the Allegany County commissioners on Thursday.  The new runway will allow most business jets carrying up to 35 or more passengers to land at the airport and will extend 3,000 feet to accommodate larger planes.  The  runway project will be constructed from 2017-22. The airport will remain in operation during the construction by using existing runways and taxiways. Wolff says an added benefit is that some of the federal funding for the runway upgrades will allow for other airport improvements as well…
