New ALCO to be unveiled Monday

August 18th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The dedication for the new $51 million Allegany High School is set for Monday with a 9:45 a.m. ribbon cutting. Dignitaries from across the state, headed by Governor Larry Hogan, are scheduled to attend. The new school, built on Haystack Mountain, is replacing the former 93-year-old facility on Sedgwick Street. The effort to build a new Allegany first began in 2009. After plans and a finance package were developed, construction of the new school began in the fall of 2016 after the demolition and removal of the former Sacred Heart Hospital was completed. The new school was built in the footprint of the former hospital.
