New PARCC Assessments Set New Baseline To Determine If Students Are On Track

The data released on Thursday for Maryland’s new PARCC assessments at the high school level set a new baseline that will help to determine if students are on track to graduate ready for college or careers. The State data were released to the Maryland State Board of Education on October 27, 2015, and all county level data were released Thursday. According to Superintendent of Schools, Dr. David Cox said the new curriculum standards have raised the bar to a much more rigorous level, and student progress is being measured with an entirely different measuring stick with the PARCC assessments. A full report on the local numbers will be discussed in greater detail during the school board’s Tuesday work session, with Cox saying Friday that it’s too early to provide an accurate analysis of what the local numbers mean at this point…
