September 26th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

As part of the continuing state and federal law enforcement investigation, a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for the burglary of a Washington County firearms store and the theft of more than one dozen handguns. Shortly before 3:00 a.m. on September 23, 2017, an alarm company notified the Hagerstown Barrack of an alarm at the Clear Spring Gun Shop, in the 14000-block of National Pike, Clear Spring, Md.  Troopers responded and confirmed a burglary and theft of firearms had just occurred.  Investigators from the State Police Criminal Enforcement Division and State Police crime scene technicians responded to the scene to process it for evidence and continue the investigation.

The investigation revealed two suspects forced entry into the business through the front door.  The suspects were wearing dark clothing and masks. Upon entering the business, the suspects broke into a gun display case and stole 19 handguns.  One suspect was carrying a small black colored handgun during the burglary.  This crime is being investigated by the Maryland State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).  Information regarding each stolen firearm has been entered into the National Crime Information Center database.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms industry, have announced a combined reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the theft of firearms from the Clear Spring Gun Shop.  This gun shop is a federal firearms licensee.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sergeant Sigmund or Senior Trooper James Bowers of the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division at 301-766-3839, or the ATF 24/7 hotline at 1-888-ATF-TIPS (1-888-283-8477) or send an email to ATFTips@atf.gov.  Citizens can also send a text anonymously via the ReportIt® mobile app, available through www.reportit.com, using the ATF Baltimore Field Division as the location.  The investigation is continuing
