Report Issued On Winchester Road Shooting Incident

September 20th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

On September 19th, 2107, members of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Rodeway Inn, in LaVale, Maryland in response to a domestic violence call to 911.  Two Deputies arrived at the scene and heard an argument inside one of the rooms.  The Deputies then identified themselves as police officers and asked that the occupants of the room open the door.  Kenneth Earl Wright, 41, opened the door armed with a metal object and immediately began striking the two officers knocking one of them to the ground.  In response to the attack, one Deputy discharged his service weapon striking Wright who was then treated at the scene and taken to the Western Maryland Regional Hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.  The alleged victim of domestic violence was found inside the hotel room with her 3 year old daughter and advised police that Wright had hit and struck her prior to police arriving.  Wright was determined to be a fugitive and had an outstanding arrest warrant from Washington County for failing to appear in court. Charges against Wright are pending and will be issued upon the completion of the investigation in this matter.

The two Deputies both received minor injuries and are currently on administrative leave which is the standard procedure in these events.
