Maryland’s House Minority Leader Jason Buckel sees the efforts of Governor Moore’s redistricting committee as an answer to outside pressures the governor may be feeling from other states. California, Texas, and others are redrawing lines to gain seats on Capitol Hill. Currently, Maryland’s eight districts are 7-to1 Democrat. Buckel says it’s been done before having an effect on this area…
“People paying attention at least know the history of how Western Maryland was and is still gerrymandered to basically elevate the votes of Montgomery County almost all the way down to Washington, D.C.”
The Joint Republican Caucus announced the introduction of a bill called Fair Districts for Maryland that Senator Justin Ready says would add balance to the federal delegation…
“Why would we, when the national government goes back and forth like a pendulum, why would you not want to have any Republican voice on Capitol Hill? That’s crazy.”
