State Senator George Edwards says that he will introduce legislation to have the Allegany County Commissioners fill future school board vacancies. Edwards says that Garrett County follows that policy. Governor Larry Hogan appointed Dr. Ed Root to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Wayne Foote from the school board. Edwards says he favors more local control of such matters.

Not a good idea. Too easy with a small number of board members to load the board with “friends” like we just tried to do.

No, No, No, No, No, No, No. Never, ever, never. Voters often elect a school board that is at odds with the commissioners. I heard so clown names that were being thrown around in the mix when Amigo Foote was banished. Nightmares all. I have a picture of a school boraed picked by McKay, Valentine and Brodie. Well meant fellows but they see education as wasted money. No. No. No. Keep the commissioners out of the process. The Governor is doing just fine. Bad idea. Bad. Bad, BAD.

Just because Garret County does it doesn’t make it right. Keep local politics and personalities out of the equation.
Could this be some type of quid pro quo with the Allegany County officials and Senator Edwards?

If this is such a good idea why not make it universal? What makes Allegany County different?
