On 7/19/19 at approximately 1118 hours, the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack received a call for a motor vehicle collision on Rt. 40 e/b prior to Rt. 66, Hagerstown, MD.  The on scene investigation revealed that the 2015 Nissan Sentra being operated by Gayle A. Grove was traveling e/b Rt. 40, when for unknown reasons a 2016 Polaris ATV, being operated by George Coon Newman Jr. drove out onto the roadway in the path of the Nissan Sentra.  The operator of the Nissan Sentra was not able to avoid the Polaris ATV and struck the side of the ATV, causing Newman to be ejected from the ATV.  Newman was transported to Meritus Hospital for his injuries.

The roadway was opened at approximately 1:22 P.M.  The incident is still under investigation.  It does not appear that intoxicated or distracted driving is a factor.
