SHA Using New Technology to Fight Winter Weather

Winter doesn’t officially begin until December 21st- but a sneak preview is expected today with a major winter storm expected to blanket the region. The storm is expected to arrive between 5 and 9 a.m. Thursday in the form of a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Recent winters have been relatively mild, but Western Maryland is always prepared to deal with snow and icy conditions.  With increased reliance on a variety of tools of technology, the State Highway  Administration now uses electronic devices measure the amount of salt placed on each truck and how much is being used on the highways. SHA District Six Engineer Tony Crawford says that the new technology also helps crews know the best times to hit the roads…
