Sheriff’s Office responds to accident

June 22nd, 2018 by WCBC Radio

On June 22, 2018 at approximately 1:55 PM the Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to National Pike in the area of Fifteen Mile Creek in reference to a single vehicle crash. The operator of the vehicle, Cynthia Myers, age 54, was able to contact the Allegany County dispatch center and advised her vehicle had left the roadway and traveled into the creek. While speaking with Myers, dispatchers lost phone contact and were unsure of her exact whereabouts. Allegany County deputies arrived in the area along with members of the Maryland State Police and began searching the roadway and creek area. The vehicle was located in the creek along National Pike near Old Williams Road, but Myers was not inside. The driver's door of the vehicle was open and it appeared Myers had been swept downstream by the rising waters. A short time later an Allegany County Sheriff's deputy located Myers lying along the bank of the creek approximately 100 feet below where the vehicle was located. It appeared Myers had been swept from the vehicle and was able to pull herself onto the edge of the bank before being located. Myers was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Assisting with the incident were members of the Allegany County Swift Water Rescue Team, Flintstone Fire Department, and Little Orleans Fire Department.
