The Snow Emergency Plan is in effect for all roadways.

The Maryland State Police urge all motorists to drive with due care and consideration; let common sense dictate. Please drive carefully due to the road conditions. When the Snow Emergency Plan is in effect, all vehicles traveling on designated Snow Emergency Routes must be equipped with chains, snow tires, or all season radial tires. Vehicles parked on Snow Emergency Routes are subject to being impounded.

As the winter storm continues, Allegany County Director of Emergency Services Dick Devore has a couple of words of advice. If you don't have to travel, stay at home until the roads are cleared. And if you are going to shovel the snow, don't overdo it. Make sure you are up to the task, and take frequent breaks. And if you don't get to it, it will eventually melt.

This winter storm is one that is affecting the entire State of Maryland. The Maryland Emergency Management Agency and Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration activated the Emergency Operations Center Saturday afternoon. Governor Larry Hogan says the storm is having an impact in every county in the state.

The Snow Emergency Plan was placed into effect in Maryland's three westernmost counties during the 5 PM hour on Saturday. Statewide, over 200 vehicles were in operation during the evening and overnight hours as the storm arrived and started to create slick road conditions. Just about the entire state was under a Winter Storm Warning.
