Sobriety Checkpoint Nets One Arrest

The Maryland State Police and Allegany County Sheriff’s Office conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Friday evening, July 29, 2016.  The operation was conducted between 10:00 p.m. Friday evening through 12:25 a.m. on US Route 220 between Upper Potomac Industrial Park Street and Milnor Avenue in Allegany County.

     272 vehicles were checked during the effort.  One driver was found to be impaired.  The checkpoint was manned by 8 State Troopers and 5 Allegany County Sheriff’s Deputies.  3 members of the State Highway Administration District 6 also assisted with safety during the operation. 

     The law enforcement agencies would like to thank the community in the effort to reduce impaired drivers on the roadways.  Highway safety begins with the decision to drive sober, well rested and with no distractions.
