Stabbing incident at WCI under Investigation

Prison officials are continuing to investigate a stabbing Thursday at the Western Correctional Institution that sent a wounded inmate to the hospital. The incident occurred at about 3 p.m. when a 33-year-old inmate was stabbed in the upper chest and back, according to a spokesman for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The injured inmate was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be of a life-threatening nature.

 

Preliminary investigation and review of security videotape identified the suspect, a 33-year-old inmate serving 15 years on weapons charges, the spokesman said.

The victim is reportedly serving a life sentence for murder.

 

The incident remains under investigation.
