Suspect In Mineral County Murders In Custody

November 19th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

A 33-year-old Virginia man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Jefferson County in connection with the shotgun slayings of two Burlington residents, according to the Mineral County Sheriff's Office.

Jimmy Lee Lambert, 33, of Stephens City, was reportedly taken into custody in Shenandoah Junction on an arrest warrant charging him with two counts of first-degree murder.

He is accused of killing Donald L. Rutter, 32, and Destiny C. Foster, 25, both of Burlington.

Rutter was found dead of gunshot wounds Monday at 74 Maple Hollow Lane, located about three miles off U.S. Route 50, following the shootings that occurred at about 3 a.m.

Foster was found with gunshot wounds at the scene and died a short time later after she was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital from Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser, where she received initial treatment.

Within hours of the incident, the sheriff’s office obtained an arrest warrant from Mineral County Magistrate Court charging Lambert.

Police did not initially release Lambert's name when the warrant was obtained by the sheriff's office. Deputies continued to work Tuesday morning in their efforts to locate Lambert, who was reportedly taken into custody at about 2:30 p.m.

Details of the circumstances of the arrest were not immediately available.

The sheriff's office said Lambert was positively identified by Foster as she spoke briefly with a deputy in the back of an ambulance just before she was transported to the hospital.

Court documents state a black toboggan was found in the driveway of the victims’ residence. Inside the hat was a wallet containing Lambert’s Virginia driver’s license.

Six spent 12-gauge shotgun shell casings were located in the bedroom area of the residence where both victims were located, according to the court papers. No firearm was found in the residence.

Deputies from Mineral and Hampshire counties responded to the scene along with fire and EMS units after the shooting was reported first to the Hampshire County 911 emergency center by Foster.
