Teachers Union Asks BoE For Increased Input In Budget Process

While making no specific requests of the Allegany County Board of Education during this month’s public forum on the FY 2018 budget- a representatives from the teachers union did ask that teachers and staff be afforded the opportunity to provide increased input during the budget process. Evan West, UniServe director for the Allegany County Education Association, was one of just two members of the audience who spoke during public input. Among the board’s general goals to consider when preparing the $110 million budget and programs for next year was “a close examination of staff morale.”  West suggested that allowing teachers to play a more vital role in developing the budget would prove to be a morale booster…
