As first reported Wednesday by WCBC News, The Metropolitan Police Department has now confirmed- the two CSX employees killed Tuesday night when they were hit by an Amtrak train were from this area Police identified the men Thursday as Jake Lafave, 25, of Cumberland, and Stephen Deal, 20, of Meyersdale, Pennsylvania. Lafave, a conductor, and Deal, a conductor trainee, were struck and killed by the Amtrak train as they inspected the freight train near Washington’s Union Station. The freight train was traveling from Baltimore to Chicago, The Associated Press reported. The train consisted of two locomotives, 49 loaded rail cars and nine empty cars, CSX said. The train was carrying paper products, machine parts, clothing and grain. The Amtrak train was traveling from Boston and New York. Amtrak said none of the train's passengers or crew was injured in the accident, according to The AP. This is Earl Weener from the National Transportation Safety Board.
