Vehicular Crash Leads to DUI Arrest

On May 6th, 2021 officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 100 Block of Greene Street for a reported multi motor vehicle crash. Upon officers arrival they began to investigate the crash when one of the operators, Anthony Dwayne Dyson Jr, became argumentative with the officer. The officer then attempted to ascertain if there were injuries to those involved. While conducting their investigation Dyson continued to be aggressive with the investigating officer and struck the officer in the face numerous times. The officer advised Dyson he was under arrest, and he continued to resist and assault the officer. Dyson was placed under arrest, and transported to the Cumberland Police Department.

While at the Cumberland Police Department, Dyson remained combative and assaulted other officers. Officers investigating the accident learned through their investigation that Dyson was the at fault driver. They further suspected he was operating the motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Officers also learned that he was operating the motor vehicle while uninsured, and had an active Arrest Warrant for knowingly operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Dyson was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on $2,000.

 

Arrest: Anthony Dwayne Dyson Jr, age 24, Lexington Park Maryland.

Charges: Assault Second Degree Law Enforcement Officer, Two Counts of Assault Second Degree, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing and Hindering, Fail to Obey, and traffic charges related to the accident, Driving Under the Influence, and operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. He was also served an Arrest Warrant for Knowingly Driving an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
