WCBC To Broadcast Frostburg State NCAA Playoff Saturday

November 21st, 2017 by WCBC Radio

WCBC has made arrangements to broadcast this Saturday's Frostburg State University at Washington & Jefferson NCAA Football Playoff Saturday from Washington, Pennsylvania.

The WCBC Sports Team will have full coverage beginning Saturday at 11 AM.

WCBC appreciates the assistance of FSU Sports Communications Director Noah Becker in providing invaluable assistance in setting up the broadcast.

Frostburg (10-1) received one of five at-large bids to the NCAA Playoffs when the field was announced last Sunday, while the Presidents (11-0) received an automatic bid after winning the Presidents' Athletic Conference for the 25th time.

Frostburg earned its trip to W&J after defeating No. 9 Wittenberg yesterday in Springfield, Ohio, 35-7 behind an offense that ran for 385 yards and a defense that held one of the country's top offensive units to just 251 yards and seven points.

The win over the Tigers handed Frostburg its second-consecutive 10-win season and was the 10th-straight win away from Bobcat Stadium.

Frostburg also knocked Wittenberg from the ranks of the unbeaten as the Tigers ended their year at 10-1 and endured their first home loss since 2014.

The matchup with W&J will have the Bobcats facing yet another undefeated team as the President's are 11-0 following a 31-28 win over No. 19 Johns Hopkins yesterday in the first round.

Washington & Jefferson carries a 15-game winning streak into the contest and it hasn't lost at Cameron Stadium since its home opener in 2012, a span of 30-straight wins.

On Saturday, Frostburg squared off against the second winningest football program at the NCAA Division III level in Wittenberg and this Saturday FSU will battle DIII's third winningest football program in W&J. The Presidents have 724 wins heading into 2017 and have been to the NCAA Playoffs 25 times.

Frostburg and Washington & Jefferson are no strangers to one another as the two schools are separated by less than 100 miles and have met six times before. However, Washington & Jefferson has won all six meetings with the most recent wins coming between the 2008-10 seasons.

The Bobcats and Presidents are also familiar with one another when it comes to the NCAA Playoffs as the two met in the second round in 1993 in Frostburg's first-ever trip to the NCAAs. W&J earned a 28-7 win that afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.

The winner of Frostburg and Washington & Jefferson will advance to face the winner of No. 2 Mount Union (11-0) and No. 16 Case Western Reserve (11-0) on Saturday, Dec. 3 in the playoff quarterfinals.
