Western Maryland Health System honors organ, eye and tissue donors

April 12th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

More than two dozen people gathered early Thursday morning beneath the flags at Western Maryland Health System to honor the memory of organ, eye and tissue donors. The flag-raising event, held in conjunction with Donate Life Month, was co-sponsored by WMHS and the Living Legacy Foundation of Maryland.     “The greatest privilege in life is caring for another human life,” said Elizabeth Wooster, Manager of the Trauma Program at WMHS. “Today is a visual reminder of how important life is.” WMHS would like to recognize the four organ and 17 tissue donors who gave life in 2018.

More than 113,000 people are waiting for donations nationally, with 3,400 of those residing in Maryland. The ceremony honored donors, recipients and their families. “We thank you all for being here to celebrate this selfless gift,” Wooster said.
