Cumberland, Maryland, hails as the county seat of Allegany County, Maryland. The county area is 421 square miles of which 8.5 square miles is Cumberland. The estimated county population is 75,000. The largest segment of the population is in the 20-44 age group comprising 31.4%, followed by the 45-64 age group at 22.6%, and the 65 plus age group is an additional 20.7%.  WCBC 1270 AM radio was founded in April, 1976. CBC’s "full service" format offers the Cumberland and surrounding areas’ listeners something not found on any other local radio station. The station’s primary concern is to inform it’s listeners.

Information provided includes complete news coverage: locally, regionally, and nationally; complete weather forecasts provided by a firm employing registered meteorologists; participation in major community events to promote the area and it’s many organizations by way of remote broadcasts and community service announcements; complete information regarding school and senior center lunch menus, closings and special events.

WCBC’s programming includes network affiliations with ABC Radio Network , the Westwood One, Premiere Radio Network , Yahoo Sports Radio, and the Focus on the Family Radio Network. These network affiliations provide us with programming from Coast to Coast-George Noory, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill Cunningham, T"he Money Pit, Cal Thomas, Kim Kommando, Bill O'Reilly and more.

The station’s sports programming includes coverage of local high school football and basketball, Allegany College of Maryland basketball,  Washington Redskins football, Pittsburgh Pirates and area little league baseball.
