School System cancels all in-person extra curricular activities, athletic events and practices
School System cancels all in-person extra curricular activities, athletic events and practices
As a result of increased health metrics related to COVID-19 in Allegany County, ACPS is cancelling all in-person extra-curricular activities and athletics events and practices effective today, Thursday, November 5, 2020, beginning with afternoon activities. This decision was made in collaboration with the Allegany County Health Department and school system staff after reviewing recent health data. Coaches and advisors will be in contact with students if they opt to conduct their activities in a virtual format. Community health metrics will continue to be monitored to determine when ACPS can resume in-person extra curricular activities and athletic practices and events.
COVID-19 Relief Programs for Maryland Restaurants, Artists, and Entertainment Venues

Traffic Pattern Change at John Humbird
As a result of the shortened school day for elementary schools during the hybrid learning model, Allegany County Public Schools, in cooperation with the City of Cumberland, have made temporary changes to the traffic patterns in front of two schools to better coincide with dismissal times. Mary Street in front of John Humbird Elementary School and Second Street in front of South Penn Elementary School have always been limited to one-way traffic twice a day to help with traffic flow during arrival and dismissal times. Police Arrest One on Trespassing
On November 4th, 2020 officers of the Cumberland Police Department observed Drezdin Jose Delgado to be at a Mechanic Street address that he a no-trespassing order from. Police Make Assault Arrest on Centre Street
On November 4th, 2020 Officers responded to a Centre Street address for a reported assault. Upon officers arrival they observed a victim to be lying in the roadway. Officers attempted to speak with the victim but due to their condition the officers were unable to do so. The victim was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. Officers spoke with witnesses who advised that Tara Rene Athey had struck the victim in the head with a bottle. Mineral County Schools All-Remote for Remainder of This Week
As a result of the county being placed on red status on West Virginia’s color-coded COVID-19 map, all Mineral County Schools classes will be remote for the remainder of the week. That announcement came Wednesday morning from school superintendent Troy Ravenscroft. The county's infection rate is 28.71 per 100,000 people, and the rate of positivity 8.35%, according to state data. A county enters red status when there are 25 or more cases per 100,000 or a positivity rate higher than 8%.
