Cumberland Police Seeking Missing Youth

The Cumberland Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing juvenile. Kelsei Braswell is a 15 year-old male who was last seen in the area of Montgomery Avenue Cumberland, MD. Anyone with information as to his whereabouts are asked to call the Cumberland Police Department at 301-777-1600 or our Facebook page. Callers can remain anonymous. 

Mountain Ridge High School Holds National Honor Society Induction Ceremony

The Mountain Ridge High School Chapter of the National Honor Society recently held its induction ceremony for the 2024-2025 school year welcoming 72 new members to the organization. The NHS recognizes juniors and seniors who display outstanding accomplishment in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership and character. Students are required to have a grade point average of 3.7 or higher in order to apply for membership into the organization. South Penn On HOLD Status Briefly Today

From Allegany County Public Schools -   Today, October 30, 2024, South Penn Elementary School was placed in a brief HOLD status due to a medical emergency. First Responders arrived on scene and provided medical service. School administrators gave the “All Clear” and the instructional day resumed as normal.

Bedford Crash Claims Two Lives

A late night crash on Lincoln Highway near Bedford claimed two lives Sunday night.  Police reports indicate the driver of the vehicle lost control and left the highway, striking an embankment and spinning several times. Three passengers were ejected from the vehicle in the crash. Two were pronounced deceased at the scene. One of the deceased has been identified as 22-year old Kamren Martin of State College. No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

ACM Awards Jim Robey Scholarship

Allegany College of Maryland has awarded the WCBC Jim Robey Achievement Scholarship for the 2024-25 school year to Justice Warner.  Warner will receive $500 split over the Fall and Spring semesters.  The scholarship is awarded annually to a student in the multimedia technology curriculum. Warner has completed 30 credit hours towards her Associate’s Degree and also works at UPMC Western Maryland.

Kentucky Ave Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Dangerous Weapon Arrest

On Tuesday, October 29th, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Kentucky Ave for the report of an assault involving a baseball bat. Once on scene, officers located a male victim who was suffering from head, face, arm, and leg injuries. After taking a brief statement from the victim, the Cumberland Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a nearby medical facility with suspected serious injuries. State of the County Addresses Funding Shortfalls

Police Union Announces Endorsement

UFCW Local 1994, the union which represents Cumberland Police officers, has announced their endorsement of Brian Lepley for one of the open City Council seats in the November election.  Lepley is a former Cumberland Police officer. Union President Gino Renne said in a statement that the union is confident in Lepley’s leadership bringing positive changes and a strong voice for Cumberland’s workforce and residents.

Allegany Alliance Enters Endorsements

Democrats and Republicans are pouring money into campaigns for school board seats, making them a hot topic this election.  Ads supporting candidates of both parties are taking “right-wing, left-wing” extremes, warning voters about candidate agendas.  Recently the Allegany County Republican Alliance announced their endorsement of incumbent Crystal Bender for the county school board while the teachers union endorsed newcomers Max Green and Gerry LeFemina.  Michael Mudge of the Alliance says the group has particular boxes to check for an endorsement… “So we were looking at who’s running who is a Republican.
