Gamble Pays Off for County Budget

A small gamble in 2026 paid off in more money for Allegany County’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget. Allegany County Commissioners passed a resolution to adopt the $159.3 million budget that does not raise property tax or income tax. Commission President Dave Caporale spoke on how the state’s disparity grant increased…
“We increased our income tax to 3.2 so we could capture additional disparity grant dollars from the State of Maryland. The move paid off and unlocked in excess of $5.7 million dollars in new disparity grant funding as we head into Fiscal Year 2027. We have no increases or fees at this time and the taxes are in the general fund.”
