City of Cumberland Making City-Owned Real Estate Available for Purchase

Chris Myers

City of Cumberland is making City-owned real estate available for purchase through a Sealed Bid Sale Process. The application process for this program evaluates the vision and plan for a property in combination with an offer price. The goal of the program is to return properties to the private sector for their highest and best use.

Ten properties, ranging from rehabilitation candidates to buildable residential lots to adjacent lots, are open for bid until February 18, 2026. Interested bidders must obtain the bid packet from the Community Development Department in the Lower Level of City Hall at 57 N. Liberty Street and must place bids utilizing the forms included in the packet. Additional details surrounding the properties, as well as information on obtaining the bid packet can be found on the City’s website at: https://www.cumberlandmd.gov/1823/Round-11-Surplus-Property-Sale

Sealed proposals addressed to the Mayor and City Council will be received at the office of the City Clerk, City Hall, 57 N. Liberty St. Cumberland, Maryland 21502, until but not after 2:00 p.m., local time, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Proposals will be opened and read at 2:30 p.m. on that date in the City Hall Council Chambers.

The City also has a group of properties, considered buildable or adjacent lots, available through the Ongoing Surplus Property Sale. Bids for these properties may be submitted at any time – the list of these may be viewed at: http://www.ci.cumberland.md.us/622/Ongoing-Surplus-Sale.

Questions about the Surplus Property Sales may be directed to Denise Gilks in the Community Development Department at 301-759-6459 or via email at denise.gilks@cumberlandmd.gov.
