Hounds Around Town
Looking for a day filled with furry friends and fun? Then look no further than the Allegany County Animal Shelter’s “Hounds Around Town” program, which allows individuals to sign a shelter dog out for the day. The most important thing is you are giving an adoptable shelter dog a much-needed break from the kennels and providing enrichment and socialization. H.E.A.L MOBILE: Health Education & Access Link
There’s a new mobile public health service in Allegany County, and it’s coming to a community near you. The Allegany County Health Department H.E.A.L Mobile is bringing health resources, education, outreach, and clinical services to communities across the county. Check out their online calendar to see where the mobile unit will be, offering immunizations, reproductive health services, WIC, insurance enrollment, dental services, and more. Allegany Community Symphony Orchestra

The Allegany Community Symphony Orchestra will perform its 25th Annual Spring Concert on Saturday, May 23 at 7:00 in the Mountain Ridge High School Theatre. The orchestra will perform a wide variety of music and is free and open to the public.

Let’s Beautify Cumberland is hosting a free community concert, Sunday, May 24th at the Canal Place festival grounds. This USO-style event begins at 3:00PM, as they gather to salute the community’s veterans and kick off America’s 250th Birthday. The afternoon will feature live music from the Chinese Bandits, playing rock ‘n’ roll hits from the 50’s through the 80’s. along with patriotic favorites from DJ Mark Stevens. Various food and drink vendors will also be on-site for your enjoyment. A limited number of lawn chairs will be provided however, you are encouraged to bring your own or grab a blanket and enjoy the afternoon with neighbors, friends and family.

EAA Chapter 426 Fly-In/Drive-In Breakfast

EAA Chapter 426 will host their Fly-In/Drive-In Breakfast Sunday, May 31st, 8:00am until 12:00pm at the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport – CBE in Wiley Ford, WV. Breakfast will include hotcakes, home fries, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit cocktail, coffee and orange juice. All you can eat on the premises for $12 for adults and $6 for kids under the age of 12. Young Eagles will offer kids ages 8 to 17, weather and pilot availability permitting. Stars, Stripes, & Smiles: 250 Fun Day!

We’ll kick things off with our Trail Unveiling @ 9:45 followed by guided hikes of the Forest Evolution Trail. After the Trailblazing 250 Guided Hikes on the new Forest Evolution Trail, stick around for a fun celebration of America 250! We’re joining in the commemoration of the nations 250th anniversary!
Visitors can explore our three museums which include the Farmhouse Museum – originally built c.1780 by Edward Grimes a Lt. in the Revolutionary War and expanded in 1822 and c.1880; The Pennsylvania Bank style Barn also built by Edward Grimes c. 1780, which will feature local vendors on the upper level and the Agriculture Museum in the lower level with a new Exhibit focusing on Edward Grimes and the history of the Mount Savage Area in the late 1700’s; and the Coal Camp featuring a blacksmith shop, recreated mine opening, boarding house, and small mine museum.

St. Paul’s Applicants for the Schaidt Scholarship

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cumberland, is accepting applicants for the Mortimer C. and Elizabeth Ann Schaidt Scholastic Tuition Fund for the 2026-2027 academic year. While preference is given to members of St. Paul’s, any Allegany County student may apply. The award is limited to payment of tuition at an accredited institution offering a two- or four- year degree, graduate degree, technical or vocational training. Applications are due by June 15th. Cumberland Garden Tour

Forest to Fungi Workshop

Take a tour of the Evergreen Forest Garden and learn about the benefits of agroforestry! The one acre demo garden hosts a plethora of plant species throughout its nine sections. See real world examples of plants that thrive in various conditions in the forest that could be replicated on your property.
After the tour, we’ll transition and learn how to cultivate oyster mushrooms. Participants will each make and take their own mushroom baskets. You’ll learn the how-to, the supplies necessary, and care requirements to grow your own oyster mushrooms.
Location: Meet in the Science Discovery Center
Parking: Park behind the Brown House in the grass below the solar panels (right side). There is a set of stairs located to the left of the panels that you can use to get to the pavilion.
Autumn Harvest Festival

Family fun on the Farm– Join us for our last Open House of the year. Play pumpkin games including ring toss and bowling! Attend a special presentation Dining in Colonial Maryland by A Taste of History with Joyce White. Tour our museums and exhibits: Farmhouse Museum, Living Off the Land Agricultural Museum, Miner’s Mule Stable, Boarding House, Blacksmith Shop, Mine Opening, Gatehouse, and the 1822 Kitchen & Garden. Then, grab a bite to eat and visit with local vendors.
Parking: Please park in the upper parking lot and walk down over the hill. Spaces in the small lot beside the Gateway Pavilion are reserved for those needing ADA accessibility.
An Evergreen Heritage Center Christmas
