Little Free Library

Little Free Library has opened in Historic downtown Cumberland. The Minecraft-themed Little Free Library is located at the corner of Merchants Alley and South Liberty Street. Take a book, leave a book. If you see a book you would like to read, feel free to take it with you. Return it to the Little Free Library when you have finished. Give a book and help keep this Little Free Library operating by leaving a book for others to read.


WV Parenting

There are currently 6,900 children in the state care in West Virgina, many of these children need a home. Burlington United Methodist Family Services is requestiong your help. National Federation of the Blind of Maryland Western Maryland Chapter

The Western Maryland chapter of the National Federation of the Blind is seeking new members as it starts its local membership drive! Are you blind, visually impaired or know someone who is or maybe you work with the visually impaired? Consider joining the state's fastest growing chapter here in Western Maryland. Hounds Around Town

Looking for a day filled with furry friends and fun? Then look no further than the Allegany County Animal Shelter's "Hounds Around Town" program, which allows individuals to sign a shelter dog out for the day. The most important thing is you are giving an adoptable shelter dog a much-needed break from the kennels and providing enrichment and socialization. Hooley Plunge

It's time for the twentieth year of the Hooley Plunge, Saturday, March 2 at Rocky Gap State Park. The Hooley Plunge has become the largest single-day fundraising event in Allegany County, where hundreds of brave souls run into the cold waters of Lake Habeeb. Money raised from this event will benefit local programs supporting the developmentally disabled, including Special Olympics of Allegany County, Friends Aware, programs based in both the public and private schools, Boy Scout Troop #89 and more. The Hooley Plunge is coordinated by the Alhambra Wambra Caravan #89. Since its inception, over 1.8 million dollars have been raised. On-site registration for the Hooley Plunge begins at 10:00AM and the Plungers take to the waters at 1:00PM. Plungers and spectators are encouraged to arrive early to avoid a traffic backup. Sessions will include: 1) Looking for Ways to Improve My Marriage, 2) Marriage is War?, 3) Unrealistic Expectations, 4) A Crisis of Love, 5) Communicating Well, and 6) Unpacking it All. Allegany Museum & Embassy Theatre Murder Mystery Benefit

The Allegany Museum and the Embassy Theatre will host a Murder Mystery Benefit on the evenings of Thursday, April 11th, Friday, April 12th and Saturday, April 13th. Written and directed by Tom Valentine, this interactive experience in the museum ballroom features an eight-member cast mingling throughout the crowd before the performance and dropping clues. Refreshments will be available at a cash bar, and charcuterie boards will be set at each table. Attendees will be invited to guess the murderer by ballot at the end of the performance. Prizes for winners include a Whiskey Rebellion ticket or a Triple Play theatrical event pass from the Embassy Theatre. A troupe of actors are on their way to NYC for the opening of a new show, "Titanic: Ship of Fools". They stop in Cumberland to rehearse at the Embassy Theatre but end up at the Allegany Museum instead. All the cast members have reasons to murder the leading lady, Donna. During a rehearsal, the lights go out…a scream is heard…and Donna ends up dead. Seating is limited to 100 peopple per night. Tickets will be $40 per person and a ticket link for this joint benefit is available on the websites and Facebook pages of both the Allegany Museum and Embassy Theatre.
