Springs Museum Life & Times of Area Early Settlers

Relive the life and times of the area's early settlers at the Springs Museum. The Springs Museum will be open for the season with new exhibits which will be continually changing all season. Open Friday and Saturdays, 9:00AM-2:00PM, beginning May 26th through October. Located at 1711 Springs Road, Springs PA, 15562, adjacent to the Springs Farmers' Market. Donation basis. Story Time Returns to Allegany County Library System

The Traditional Story Time series with the Allegany County Library System is returning this winter/spring. Beginning the week of January 23rd, Story Times will be held at 10:30AM on Tuesdays at the LaVale Library, Wednesday, at the Frostburg, George's Creek and Washington Street Libraries and Thursday at the South Cumberland and Westernport Libraries. Story Time at the Allegany County Library System help grow your child's early literacy skills with a fun-filled time of book reading, singing, rhyming, moving, and creating with one of the ACLS Program Specialists. Little Free Library

Little Free Library has opened in Historic downtown Cumberland. The Minecraft-themed Little Free Library is located at the corner of Merchants Alley and South Liberty Street. Take a book, leave a book. If you see a book you would like to read, feel free to take it with you. Return it to the Little Free Library when you have finished. Give a book and help keep this Little Free Library operating by leaving a book for others to read.


WV Parenting

There are currently 6,900 children in the state care in West Virgina, many of these children need a home. Burlington United Methodist Family Services is requestiong your help. Medication Take Back

The Allegany County Sheriff's Office will once again be conducting medication take back event, times and locations to be announced in the near future. Currently, home pickups are available to be scheduled at your convenience. To schedule a home pickup contact Sgt. J.M. Dowden by calling or texting at 301-876-2419 or email jdowden@alleganygov.org. Unused medications will be picked up by Allegany County Sheriffs Deputies and destroyed by the Allegany County Health Department. This initiative aims to prevent the misuse of old or surplus medication as well as prevent the improper disposal of medications into landfills and the environment. No personal information is asked or obtained. The Sheriff's Office operation is made by grant funding sponsored by the Allegany County Health Department and the Maryland Department of Health, Office of Population Health Improvement-Opioid Misuse Prevention Program. Hounds Around Town

Looking for a day filled with furry friends and fun? Then look no further than the Allegany County Animal Shelter's "Hounds Around Town" program, which allows individuals to sign a shelter dog out for the day. The most important thing is you are giving an adoptable shelter dog a much-needed break from the kennels and providing enrichment and socialization. Fall Fur All

A afternoon of Fun & Fur for All, an Allegany County Animal Shelter Adoption Event, Sunday, September 30th, 11:00AM to 4:00PM at the Frostburg Elks 470, 126 E. Main Street, Frostburg, MD. Select from the Magic Pumpkin for adoption fee, meet members of the Mountain Maryland Search & Rescue team and the new Allegany County K-9s, a visit from Little Wills Creek Ranch Alpacas. There will be a blessing of animals by Father Scott Kady at 2:30PM. Plus there will also be a gun raffle, facepainting, Dedi's Kitch, Mr. Toad's Pottery Paw Prints, Evitts Creek Arts, Darby's Duds scarves, fundraising by MRHS Cheerleaders, photos by Tina Blubaugh, B&B Smoked Dog Bones, Fairy Hair Tinsel & Jewlery by Emily Ann Fielding w/Jacqueline Kenney and joint training facility. Close out the evening with music by Triad in the Elks Social Quarters at 5:00PM.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Are you cleaning out your garage, basement and cupboards only to find a container of two of household products that you aren't sure how to dispose of? If so- Save The Date – for the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event in Allegany County, Saturday, October 7th, from 9:00AM – 2:00PM at the Allegany County Fairgrounds, 11490 Moss Avenue. This event will provide free disposal of leftover gasoline, oil, fluids, automotive batteries, chemicles, cleaners, pesticides/herbicides, glues and adhesives. All materials must be brought in original containers-do not mix or consolidate any products. Additionally, paint will be accepted for recycling for $3 per container (payments will be accepted on-site). Only Latex paint in its original container with the OEM label will be accepted. Sizes accepted are quart, 1-gallon or 5-gallon buckets.

Crop Walk -Hunger Walkers are Ready

The 52nd annual Crop Walk for Hunger will be held Sunday, October 8th. Registration will be at 1:30PM in the CBIZ parking lot on Mechanic Street. The walk will begin at 2:00PM and will be a total of 3 miles, down and back on the Great Allegany Passage. Crop – Christians Relating to Other People- is an annual walk to make others aware of hunger throughout our world, country, state and in our own Allegany County. All churches, organizations and clubs may participate in the walk which raises monry to help the Western Maryland Food Bank, the LaVale U.M.C. Food Pantry and the Cumberland Interfaith Community Food Pantry. For More information call Sany Cowan, coordinator at 301-268-3143.

Pre-Event Business Workshop

The Allegany County Chamber of Commerce will hold a Pre-Event Business Workshop prior to the Local Business Showcase, Wednesday, October 18th, from 10:00AM to 4:00PM, at the Lane Center FSU, 101 Braddock Road, Frostburg. Allegany County Local Business Showcase

The Allegany County Chamber of Commerce will host the Allegany County Local Business Showcase, Wednesday, October 18th, 4:30PM-7:30PM. The showcase will provide an opportunity for Chamber businesses and non-profit organizations to showcase their products and services in an informal setting. It is a great way to introduce a new product to the marketplace, generate leads, exchange information and ideas, discover new products or services, and network with fellow exhibitors. South Cumberland Halloween Parade

The annual South Cumberland Business and Civic Association Marsha L. Thomas Menorial Halloween Parade is scheduled for Wednesday, October 25th. The Parade will begin at 7:00PM and follow the same route as in past years as it moves along East Frist Street then travels down Virgnia Avenue and disbands on West Industrial Boulevard between Kirk Auto Sales and West Third Street. The SCBCA encourages businesses, individuals, clubs, churchs, ect., to decorate and enter floats in the parade. Candy and handouts will be allowed. Costumed mummers up to the age of twelve (12) will be judged at 5:30PM in Smith Park, located between Race and Seymour Streets, The mummers will then lead the parade through the parade route. There is no registration for participating in the costume judging and children do not need to reside in Cumberland. Applications to participate in the parade are being mailed to previous year's participants. Anyone wishing to participate in the parade may contact the SCBCA Halloween Parade Committee at 301-722-6759 or seanbt@atlanticbb.net. The deadline for this year's Parade is Friday, October 6. Any business or individual interested in donating to help offset parade expenses can contact the Halloween Parade committee at the above phone number or email address.

E.A.A. Chapter 426 Fly-In/Drive-In Breakfast

The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 426 will hold their monthly Fly-In/Drive-In Breakfast, Sunday, October 29th 8:00AM-12:00PM at the Greater Cumberland Airport. The All You Can Eat Breakfast on the premises includes Hotcakes, Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Sausage Gravy, Fried Potatoes, Fruit Cocktail, Coffee and Orange Juice. Adults are $12.00 and $6.00 for children under the age of 12. Free "Young Eagle" airplane rides for ages 8 thru 17, weather permitting and pilots available.
