Coney Mayor Reacts To Moore’s Budget
Governor Wes Moore’s fiscal year 2027 budget includes a much-needed line for flood recovery for the Georges Creek area. Twelve million dollars is budgeted to help the area with infrastructure and other recovery after the federal government twice denied any relief monies. Lonaconing Mayor Jack Coburn said he has talked to the governor several times since May…
“Through conversations all along, he has indicated – his quotes to me were always ‘I’m going to take care of you, don’t worry Mayor.’ And I honestly believed he would, I just thought it would take time, and it did take time, but he came through on what he told us.”
Coburn said the money would definitely help the costs of restoration, even if it isn’t the amount estimated most recently of $35 million dollars…
“It’s hard to judge. I’m not sure it’s going to cover everything, but it’s a good start. And that’s all that matters – you have to start somewhere.”
