McKay’s Amendments Voted Down

Kathy Cornwell has spent over 40 years in local media, starting her career with an internship at WCBC in the late 1980s. After graduating from Frostburg State University, she worked extensively in cable television advertising and programming with Comcast. From 2002 to 2005, she was married to WCBC's Jim Robey. Kathy returned to the News Department at WCBC in 2023. She lives in Cumberland with her husband, retired radio station manager Rich Cornwell.

Debate Thursday in the Maryland Senate centered on a bill that would prohibit law enforcement from wearing face coverings. SB1 is seen as being in direct response to the actions of immigrations and custom officers across the country. Senator Mike McKay introduced 3 amendments to the bill, all of which were voted down. One would have hidden the addresses of officers in any charging documents…

“But to remove the home address of the officer I believe is prudent and I also tend to believe, as I started out – we need to protect due process – having the officer’s home address only inspires somebody to do something negative.”
