Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Leads the Way for Winter Excursions

Heritage Railroad excursions are gaining popularity across the United States. Wes Heinz, Executive Director of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, joined WCBC’s Dave Norman program from Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he is attending the Railroad Passenger Car Alliance. Mr. Heinz notes that numerous railroads are adopting the approach of Western Maryland, which includes offering winter rail service.
“A lot of heritage railroads across the country are following our battle plan if you will and instead of closing in the winter. Most people don’t realize when you close in the winter you’re usually lay people off and as you’ve got to know me, that is something I don’t want to ever have to do or even think about so in order to do that we continue the railroad operating season into the winter with Allegany Winter Express.”
Passengers can access spectacular mountain winter views in coach class for $13.09 on Saturdays throughout February.
