Extreme Cold Watch and Cold Weather Advisory

Chris Myers

Chris Myers is the Morning Show Producer, Broadcaster, at WCBC Radio in Cumberland, Maryland. Myers handles various operational, engineering duties for the station and directs the morning news. In addition to his broadcasting role, Myers is a prominent downtown Cumberland businessman and an active community member who helps organize local events. Myers has been with the Cumberland Broadcasting Company, which operates WCBC, since August 2019 and began his career in radio broadcasting at the age of 14 as a board engineer for WQOL in Florida. In 1998 he was promoted to Chief Engineer for WTTB 1490AM and WGYL 93.7FM. In 2001 Treasure Coast broadcasters purchased additional stations WOSN, WPAW and WGNX.

National Weather Service has issue a Cold Weather Advisory from 7 PM this evening to 11 AM Saturday.  An Extreme Cold Watch from Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon for Maryland, Central and Eastern Allegany County. In Virginia, Eastern Highland County. In West Virginia, Eastern Grant, Eastern Mineral, Eastern Pendleton, Hampshire, and Hardy Counties.

For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 10 below expected. For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below possible. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
