Resident Asks City to make Allegany Street All One-Way

Kathy Cornwell

Kathy Cornwell has spent over 40 years in local media, starting her career with an internship at WCBC in the late 1980s. After graduating from Frostburg State University, she worked extensively in cable television advertising and programming with Comcast. From 2002 to 2005, she was married to WCBC's Jim Robey. Kathy returned to the News Department at WCBC in 2023. She lives in Cumberland with her husband, retired radio station manager Rich Cornwell.

Gregg Wolff, an Allegany Street resident, asked the Cumberland Mayor and Council this week if the street could be changed to one-way traffic.  Wolff says two-way traffic is challenging on a normal day, and the recent snowstorm made it almost impossible, with parked cars being struck.  The street is an alternate route for Emergency Medical Services, but Wolfe would like a change once a bridge is reopened…

“Since we have two-way traffic on Lee, and one-way traffic on Chase going north, would it be possible to extend the southbound one-way only on Allegany Street from Fayette down to Green.  It already exists from Cumberland to Fayette.”
