Better Candidates Would Make Districts Competitive
Rather than Maryland gerrymandering its congressional districts, a better plan would be to simply have better candidates. Seven of eight districts in the state already have Democratic representation, so why go through the exercise? Mayor Ray Morriss, who was on the redistricting commission, said putting up good candidates is really the answer…
“But I look at it and say this – to both parties – if the Democrats want to convert District 1 over to be a Democrat, run a Democrat that’s worthy of being elected. Someone – maybe more moderate, in that area. It’s going to take a moderate Democrat to win.”
